A LANDMARK PROJECT IN MADRID.

Centro Canalejas Madrid is the new iconic destination in the heart of Madrid. Comprising Spain's first Four Seasons Hotel, Four Seasons Private Residences and the exclusive shopping experience of La Galería de Canalejas, this is a development that will transform the city's historic centre.

Alcalá, 14

A BUILDING SYMBOLIC OF MADRID

The Palacio de la Equitativa, also known as the Banco Español de Crédito building, is the work of José Grases Riera and dates back to 1887. The building is the result of town planning carried out by the City Council of Madrid in the second half of 19th century.

Located at the intersection of the streets Alcalá and Panaderos (now known as Sevilla) and with the intention of accommodating an insurance company, retail units and apartments, this trapezoidal building with façades of more than 120 m was soon to be converted into one of Madrid's landmarks.

In 1920, the building was acquired by the Banco Español de Crédito and under the leadership of architect Joaquín Saldaña, was adapted and converted into what became its historic headquarters until it was bought by Banco Santander in 1994.

Plaza de Canalejas, 1

AN ARCHITECTURAL JEWEL FROM THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY

This building, dating from 1902 and located in Plaza Canalejas, was designed by the same architect who conceived the Banco de España Madrid, Eduardo Adaro. It was commissioned by the Banco Hispano Americano to house its Madrid headquarters as well as prestigious residences on the three upper floors.

At the beginning of the 1940s, the financial company purchased the adjacent plot, appointing the corporate architecture expert Manuel Galíndez to lead the reconstruction of the building and joining of the two properties.

In 1962, Manuel Galíndez' grandson, architect José María Chapa Galíndez, conducted a second expansion and thus annexing more space to the property.

Alcalá, 12

THE FIRST DOORWAY ON CALLE ALCALÁ

In 1942, the Banco Hispano Americano took over the former headquarters of Banca Sanz in order to construct a new building, designed by Manuel Galíndez. This building would connect with the other buildings in Calle Alcalá and Carrera de San Jerónimo.

Alcalá, 10

A SPECTACULAR WELCOME 75 YEARS IN THE MAKING

The former headquarters of the Banco Zaragozano was designed by the well-known architect Roberto García-Ochoa Platas, and built between 1936 and 1942. At the beginning of the 1980s, the building became part of the final extension of the Banco Hispano Americano.

Alcalá, 8

ONE OF THE MOST DISTINGUISHED FAÇADES ON CALLE ALCALÁ

Famous for conceiving and constructing the iconic gateway to Parque de El Retiro, the architect and designer José Urioste Velada developed the building between 1904 and 1907, with the intention of housing the headquarters of the financial company Credit Lyonnais, as well as several exclusive residences.

Its characteristic connection with number seven, Carrera de San Jerónimo attracted the attention of the Banco Hispano Americano, which was enjoying huge growth at that time, leading to the purchase of the property located at Alcalá 12 to expand their presence on both sides of the block.

In 1950, three years after successfully completing the connection of these buildings with the bank's headquarters, the architect Manuel Galíndez dedicated 12 years of his life to raising the height of the building according to the original design.

Alcalá, 6

THE PINNACLE OF A GRAND ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT

Alcalá 6 was built in 1974 by architects Luciano Díez Caneda and José María Chapa Galíndez as an interior expansion of the Banco Hispano Americano, and is characterised by its mock façade with no street access.
